Christmas 2020. Day 232.

One year ago we never could have imagined how this Christmas was going to be. There have been no Xmas markets, no winter wonderland in Bournemouth gardens and The Square and in many parts of this country and Europe there are lockdowns and semi lockdowns. I have to say though that yesterday John Lewis was doing a roaring trade with a long queue for the checkout, supermarkets have been busy  and people are preparing to do the best they can with the family they might be allowed to see or they are planning Zoom reunions.

Tonight, Xmas Eve, I’ve been to dinner with The Bennetts. Traditional, in our family at least, roast ham with potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Very delicious it was too. Elena made some very tasty, gooey chocolate brownies for desert, the best ones ever. I’ll be back tomorrow morning to spend the day there and The Tanners will be joining us. Still allowed in Tier 2. My presents have already been wrapped and delivered Sadly The Blandfords are in Kent in Tier 4 but we will be joining them at some point on zoom.

At the Kent border crossing the lorry drivers started to move after Macron was shamed into opening the French border. He had blockaded entry into France amid fears of the new Covid strain which is rife in the UK. Let’s hope everyone gets home safely. Whether the lorries will want to bring goods back into Britain is yet to be seen.

A Brexit deal has been agreed at last. BoJo of course claims it is “good deal for all of Europe” and said “we (the UK) have taken back control of our laws and our destiny”. I wonder, the text of the agreement has not yet been released. Let’s hope that the people who voted to leave are happy with the result. Farage is definitely celebrating. I’d like to send him into space with Tony Blair and let them circle the earth together for ever and ever.

So there’s not much news at the moment except for doom and gloom regarding Covid, dire weather forecasts and shortages due to Brexit and the border crossing between Europe and the UK. I won’t comment on any of that, not on Xmas eve anyway. It’s also getting late and I for one need to go to bed and build up my strength for more eating tomorrow. I flashed my red cowgirl boots today and I just might wear them again tomorrow. That is about the most newsworthy item I can give you.

Hope you all have a happy, peaceful or downright merry Christmas. May your trees stay upright (my son’s didn’t, a strong draught sent it toppling), may your turkey be crisp but not dry, your roasties crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside and may Santa bring you everything you asked for but probably don’t need. And let’s hope that the next one will be more hopeful. Love and best wishes, sleep tight, Santa comes tonight.🎄😴💤😴🎄
