Happy Diwali. Day 212.

Not too many Diwali celebrations in the UK today methinks, between the atrocious weather, at least here in Bournemouth, and lockdown they didn’t stand a chance. I was reminded though of when my granddaughter Alice was invited to her Indian friend’s house for dinner during Diwali when they were living in Dubai. My daughter bought her a typical dress for the occasion and she was very excited to be going. What wonderful opportunities our young people have to learn about cultures from so many different countries.

I wonder if we will see a positive outcome at 10 Downing Street following the exit of the Brexit boys. Word is out that the PM’s fiancee had something to do with it. There has been much talk about the toxic atmosphere and allegations of personal attacks against Carrie and incoming press secretary Allegra Stratton. I believe a collective sigh of relief was felt when staff and politicians heard the news.

Brexit is just around the corner and it’s hard to realise that after all this time negotiations are still ongoing but not getting any results that we know of.  Meanwhile Felixstowe port in Suffolk is in chaos due to Christmas and Brexit almost upon us. Businesses have been ordering in time for the holiday season but with containers being held up at the port due to lockdown ships are struggling to enter the area to unload. If retailers don’t get the goods in time for Christmas they will be left with stock they might be unable to sell.

The government and the UK Space Agency are seriously looking into the possibility of generating vast amounts of energy in space. A new space station consisting of five huge satellites covered in solar panels could provide energy to millions of homes in the UK. An engineering consultancy agency has been commissioned to investigate the feasibility of the project and they will report back within one year. I would like to know how much we are paying the said agency to look into the matter and are they in any way related to someone in government. I am also interested in how this additional energy might affect global warming. Just asking.

Prince Charles and Camilla have flown to Germany having been invited to attend a ceremony to mark the country’s National Day of Mourning. It is the first time that members of the royal family have been there for their remembrance ceremony. It’s 75 years since the war ended so it’s about time that both sides mourned together. The royals flew out in the newly refurbished RAF voyager which has been nicknamed Hair Force One after Boris Johnson who requested the makeover.

In Egypt more than 100 coffins and around 40 gilded statues have been uncovered in an ancient Egyptian necropolis near Cairo. Sarcophagi containing mummies that were buried more than 2500 years ago have been unearthed. One of the coffins was opened at the foot of the pyramid and found to contain a well preserved mummy wrapped in cloth. Wishing you all a sparkling Diwali.  😴💤😴
