Having shut eighteen stores Debenhams has now put themselves up for sale. They called in administrators in April and have been working alongside them in the hopes of saving the remaining one hundred and twenty four stores. Covid, of course hasn’t helped and neither has the fact that more people have been buying on line during the crisis. Would be a shame if another department store closed in the centre of Bournemouth.
Officers arrested and handcuffed a 12 year old boy who was playing with a toy hand gun. A neighbour had seen him and called the police to report that they had seen a male with a gun. Another report said that the neighbour had seen a black boy with a gun. I guess we’ll never know. Having handcuffed the boy the officers led him away to a police vehicle while they searched the house. Miles away in Southampton a lecturer was sacked from his post following a conversation he had with a colleague. He happened to say that he thought that Jewish people were the cleverest in the world and maligned because of it. He then went on to say that he often helped young black students because so often they came from underprivileged backgrounds. She called his remarks racist, made a complaint and he lost his job. I sometimes think the world is going mad.
The national lottery has spent 115 million pounds on marketing that could have been spent on good causes which is what the lottery is supposed to be about. The lottery organisers agued that having spent more on marketing it’s revenues had increased and therefore more has gone to good causes. The fact that they doubled the cost per line might have had something to do with the increase too. And I know that the money doesn’t always go to particularly ‘good’ causes.
A couple of weeks ago a fire broke out in Nantes Cathedral. A Rwandan man who was a volunteer there was arrested but soon released. He has now been rearrested as further evidence has pointed to him and he confessed to the local gendarme what he had done. Makes you wonder why the man would volunteer to look after the place and then set fire to it. Doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it?
I wonder if it’s too much to ask that we don’t see any pictures or read any mention of the royal family for at least two weeks. I’m beginning to realise how completely useless they are and yet miles of so called news items are written about them. I don’t care if they get married, if they run away, if they get divorced, have a birthday or anything else. I do care if they cause another person harm and for that they should face the courts like anyone else. It’s time they gave some of their many properties to the state and most of their money. They’ve got way more than they need. Good night one and all. 😴💤😴
